Graduate Engineer Martin Steinbach

Martin Steinbach

Steinbach Engineering, that's me, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Martin Steinbach and my extensive network of experts from the automotive and supplier industry.

Growing up in a rural area near Muenster (North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany), I developed a strong affinity for all means of transportation at an early age.

After graduating from high school and doing my military service, I first completed a down-to-earth vocational training as a motor vehicle mechatronics technician. This was followed by studies in automotive engineering (with a focus on powertrains & chassis) at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.

After professional stations in permanent employment with various vehicle manufacturers (e.g. Porsche, Hyundai, KIA, Schmitz Cargobull, Wiesmann) as well as supplier companies (ThyssenKrupp Bilstein), I decided to offer my services on a freelance basis at the beginning of 2013.

Especially in the field of homologation, I now have more than a decade of professional experience with numerous proven successes. This includes various successful manufacturer initial assessments (by KBA and SNCH) as well as numerous successful system and whole vehicle type approvals (single and multi-stage approval procedures).

Although unlimited automotive series now dominates my day-to-day business, I have a particular passion for less mundane projects. For me, this includes automotive start-ups, new vehicle concepts as well as small series and one-off productions.

Especially in the aforementioned niche areas of the automotive industry, I have acquired extensive specialist knowledge over the years (keyword: exemption regulations) and have built up an exceptionally helpful network.

Within this network, the European Small Volume Car Manufacturer's Alliance (ESCA) occupies a prominent position. In 2020, I had the privilege of presiding over this alliance for one year.

ESCA represents the interests of its members at the European Union in Brussels. Its members include icons of automotive history such as Aston Martin, McLaren, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Pagani, Lotus and many more.

Through my expertise and network, I always manage to get even the most uncommon vehicle project legally on the road.

In the recent past, I led a German start-up company in the field of electric mobility to its first successful EU whole vehicle type approval (limited and unlimited series) as interim head of homologation.

Prior to that, for a Swedish micro-mobility company, I was responsible for the first ever General Operating Permit (ABE) granted in Germany for a small electric vehicle (e-scooter).

What distinguishes me:

Pragmatic approaches, efficient processes & reliable statements.
